CCAP Across The Map partnered with the Arizona State University (ASU) Chapter of Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES). We worked with their young engineers to create keychain-sized 3D-printed ribbons, which were spray painted teal to represent cervical cancer awareness. These ribbons will be handed out at clinics, including the women’s clinic at Mayo Clinic and Planned Parenthood, after people with cervixes receive their HPV vaccine to serve as both an incentive and a reward for receiving the vaccine. These ribbons will be handed out with CCAP Across The Map-provided pamphlets about best practices for preventing, diagnosing, and receiving treatment for cervical cancer. 

Our goals for the ribbons are to spread awareness about the threat that cervical cancer poses, and to show people with cervixes how preventable and treatable it is through HPV vaccination and receiving regular Pap smear tests. CCAP Across The Map and BMES volunteers will table the ribbons at the clinics to encourage these clinics to offer helpful pamphlets to their patients, and stress the importance of HPV vaccination. This tabling will occur once outreach opportunities become available after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

The ASU BMES has been incredible working on their end of the project, and we intend to do more projects with them in the future.
